Rethinking train interiors

THE CONCEPT
'The Trans Britannia': a railway carriage interior for the 21st Century, designed within Andreas Vogler's high-speed double decker train. Together, both elements of the design will be transforming the 393 mile journey between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley.
The Trans Britannia is looking to the future. The aim is to re-establish Britain's position as the world leader in train transport, while delivering the railway industry’s '4C' objectives: halving costs; doubling capacity; reducing carbon; and ensuring customer comfort. In this way the Trans Britannia will make British rail travel desirable again. Not only will it enhance customer comfort, but also produce a genuine, 'greener’ alternative to domestic air travel and private road transportation, at a time of increasing traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

It was important to have the chair fully recline for maximum comfort for the passenger.
The plan of the chair shows how the seat becomes a fully reclined bed.
